If we need to convey the idea of absence (somebody doesn’t have a thing), the noun denoting the absent object takes the form of Genitive case (падеж №2: нет чего) though if the object is present, it’s said in Nominative (падеж №1: есть что). That is why we say “есть американская виза” but “нет американской визы“.
